Back to Cakovec

Up we get this morning around 9am. Today is a much cooler day. Down we go for breakfast and everyone is downstairs rather busy, running around with lots to do. They have a busy day on today with 50 or so guests for lunch, followed by another 60 or so for dinner. We all sit down but everyone is quiet. We have a quick simple breakfast this morning.

After breakfast we pack our bags and then pack the car. We come back down to say good-bye and everyone is very sombre. No one is really talking, even the kids are lost for words.  There are a few tears and a few more, followed by lots more. The time that we spent together has been priceless, but too short, far too short. We all say our good-bye's and then we make our way.

Off we go, but before we leave Slovenia we have one more stop. Off to the cemetery we go, to pay our respects to Stric Ivo and Strina Milka, (Marjan's oldest uncle and his wife).  Stric Pavel comes with us to show us the way. It's raining outside, so it becomes a very quick visit. We say our good-bye's with Stric Pavel and then on our way back to Cakovec we go. It's just after midday and the temperature is 22 degrees with lots of rain. A rather miserable day.

We have a 2 1/2 hours drive ahead of us. It's still raining and the roads are very wet.

We take it easy, very easy. Almost in slow mode. We pass through border control into Croatia and it's all dry, almost as if it hasn't rained. You can tell it has, but it looks dry. We finally arrive in Cakovec and get to Spomenka's and yes once again a feast awaits. Valentino and Sandra have prepared lunch for everyone. We all sit down and have lunch together. We share many story about our experiences at the beach, show a few photos and have a few laughs.

After lunch we relax for the rest of the afternoon, before Ivo calls to say come over to his place for a catch up.  We go over and find out that Tihomir and his family are also coming over. We have a bite to eat and something to drink.  After dinner the boys play cards - schnapps with belot cards, while us girls and kids play Uno. We all have fun.

The photo below is with Marjan's two cousins (brothers and son's of Stric Stef from Brezje).  They are toasting in front of a liquor cupboard built into the wall.  This house which Ivo lives in was the house that Marjan's dad was born in and the liquor cupboard was Marjan's grandfathers and everyone that came into the house would be asked to have a drink before they sat down.  Today, Ivo who has renovated the house and lives in it uses it to pay respect to their grandfather.  Everytime we visited Ivo on this trip Marjan had a drink of rakija (moonshine), it was a very nice gesture.

The night is getting late. It's already 1am. Us girls declare it a night, while the boys decide to play on. Zeljka drives Emil and me home, back to Teta's while the boys stay on.

Emil and I are home and in bed by 1.30am. Marjan's still playing cards. He arrived home at 8am the following morning. From what I hear the boys had a great night.
